A hard-working crew of volunteers have planted the garden and now helpers are needed to keep it going.
Do you have a few hours to offer during 1 week of the summer to help weed, harvest, and deliver produce to the Northborough Food Pantry?
Not a gardener? No problem. Simple instructions will be provided to each “Farmer of the Week.”

The garden began in 2008 as the Eagle Scout project of parishioner, Will Deady; an outgrowth of the Young Neighbors in Action program of 2007. The following year, the garden committee was formed to ensure continuation of the project. The committee oversees the planning and coordination of the garden and relies on volunteers to plant, weed, harvest, and deliver the vegetables to the Food Pantry. People from the larger community assist with rototilling, donating compost, delivering grass clippings to keep out the weeds, providing the vegetable plants, and most importantly, supplying the water.
The garden is more than just all the wonderful vegetables it produces. It is a very tangible sign of Christ's love in the world. Anyone driving by the garden during the summer can see the towering cucumber trellises, the beautiful flowers, and the butternut squash creeping towards Route 20 and know that good things are happening at Saint Rose.
The community that is formed to create and tend the garden is another testament to Christ’s love. Planting day brings out many generations from toddlers to seniors, providing a setting in which the young may learn from the experience of their elders. Farmers of the Week come out as families and share the experience of tending the garden for the benefit of others. What a great role model parents provide for their children. And what satisfaction comes from the efforts expended to help others.
When the pantry clients come to shop and have beautiful produce from St. Rose to add to their bags, they know that they are getting more than just vegetables. The name of the garden, the Saint Rose Community Garden says it all - it is a garden created by a community to serve the greater community.
